Opera at Oakhurst 2009 - Verismo: Operas that Thrill & Soar

Organization: ECCO - Email: ecco3@sti.net - Event email or phone: 559-683-8162 - The world of opera changed dramatically in the 1880’s & 1890’s when a new "realism" or Verismo began to thrill audiences with sensational plots, soaring melodies and throbbing passion. Join us for an exciting exploration of such masterworks as Cavalliera Rusticana , Pagliacci, La Bohème (in a version you have not likely heard before!), La Navarraise, Louise and Andrea Chenier; the melodic "diva" operas La Wally, Fedora and Adriana Lecouvreur; when Verismo went East with L’Orocolo, and the beautiful, Japanese-inspired Iris; concluding with the lyrical Florencia en el Amazonas. Altogether there will be fourteen operas by eight Verismo masters, with historic as well as contemporary music illustrations, libretto extracts, and composer biographies. Those new to opera as well as those more experienced will surely enjoy this musical weekend.
