Located near the South Entrance of Yosemite, the Mariposa Grove is the largest of three Giant Sequoia groves in the park and is home to over 500 mature giant sequoia trees. During much of the year a free shuttle is required for use between the Mariposa Grove Welcome Plaza and the Mariposa Grove. There are a variety of trails from easy to strenuous within the grove, as well as some accessible trails.

The Mariposa Grove Road closes to vehicles at the end of November and typically reopens no earlier than mid-March (this is a routine winter closure). The two-mile road from South Entrance to Mariposa Grove will remain open to hikers, cross country skiers, and snowshoeing. The Washburn Trail, which roughly parallels the Mariposa Grove Road, provides access typically year-round to the Arrival Area.
The Mariposa Grove Welcome Plaza (near South Entrance) has flush toilets and drinking water. The Mariposa Grove Arrival Area has restrooms but no drinking water.
