Yosemite Miwok-Paiute Basketry Workshop with the Yosemite Conservancy

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to learn from a cultural icon! Julia Parker is often described as a “national treasure” for ensuring the legacy of the Miwok-Paiute people in Yosemite, by spending more than 60 years as a cultural demonstrator in the park. This workshop gives you the unique chance to spend three days learning from Julia, her daughter and granddaughter, as they guide you through traditional basket-weaving techniques and share stories that have lived on through generations of families. All materials are provided, and you will take home your own beautiful handmade basket.

Guide:  Julia Parker, Lucy Parker

Included with your registration:

  • Three full days of basket-weaving, Friday through Sunday starting at 9 am until around 4 pm each day. Ending a little earlier on Sunday.

  • Camping included, if needed; limited sites are shared among all the participants (reservation arrives September  26, and departs September 30) at Upper Pines Campground in Yosemite Valley. Tent camping only. We cannot adjust these dates.
