Yosemite's South Rim sits over 2,000 feet above the valley floor and commands stunning overlooks of Half Dome, El Capitan, the Yosemite High Country, and into the deep valley below. Join one of our private interpretive guides for a day exploring the mid-mountain forests and impressive overlooks, all catered to your own interests and abilities.

Trip Itinerary:  Your guide will meet you in the morning at the base of Glacier Point Road ("Chinquapin"). From there, you'll follow your guide in your own vehicle to several hiking destinations. Your guide will customize the day based on your interests and how much hiking you'd like to do. Some of the highlights of this day include:

  • Sentinel Dome with 360 degree views of the high country, Yosemite Valley, including Half Dome and Yosemite Falls
  • Taft Point, a unique feature of the Yosemite's South Rim with views of El Capitan and the Valley below
  • Glacier Point, the famous view of Yosemite Valley and iconic Half Dome
  • Hike a section of the Pohono Trail
  • Mileage ranges from 1-5+ miles total for the day

Your SYMG Guide:  SYMG guides are professional, highly experienced, enjoyable people that have spent years perfecting their interpretive and mountain skills in and around Yosemite. They look forward to teaching and guiding you in these spectacular locations as well as getting to know you. Tell your guide your goals and s/he will do their best to meet your needs in a safe and enjoyable manner! Gratuities are accepted and appreciated for a job well done.

Gear:  The following can be provided upon request.

  • Trekking Poles
  • Daypack

What to Bring:  Plan to bring the following items in a small daypack for your guided hike.

  • 2-3 Liters of water per person
  • Lunch & snacks for the day
  • A warm layer and/or rainshell
  • Hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Camera (optional)

Wear comfortable and moisture wicking clothing (especially for the warm summer months of July-August). Comfortable hiking/running shoes that are with grippy soles are the best option for footwear. Travel & Logistics:  Your trip begins and ends in Glacier Point. You will need your own vehicle or transportation for this day, plan for extra time to get to your destination and find parking. Traffic can be heavy in Yosemite National Park during the peak months of summer. You'll be meeting your guide at the intersection of Glacier Point Road and Highway 41, known as "Chinquapin". There is a small parking area, as well as bathrooms and a payphone here. Directions will be sent to you upon registration.
