Grizzly Century Bike Ride

RIDE INFORMATION

The community of North Fork Sierra Vista Scenic Byway Association are sponsoring the 25th Grizzly Century ride in order to promote the Sierra Vista National Scenic Byway and to encourage the enjoyment of our treasured resources. Come and spend the day taking in scenic vistas from the unique vantage point that only a cyclist can claim. "Profits" earned go toward promotion and improvement of the Scenic Byway, to town restoration, and other projects that benefit our mountain community. 

WHERE: North Fork, California "The exact center of California". Note that the staging area is actually up the hill to the left from the Map Quest star (go to website). The address is North Fork School, 33087 Road 228, North Fork, CA 93643. We're 20 Miles due south of Yosemite National Park.

100 Mile/100 K

LOOP THE LAKE (26 MILES)

BYWAY GRINDER -- a new offering that bypasses the Grizzly Road and includes 9+ miles of dirt/gravel/rocky road that goes from Arch Rock to Cold Springs Summit. It includes new vistas, Portuguese Creek Overlook and Globe Rock. 25 - 28 mm tires are highly recommended if you choose this route! It will NOT be supported by sags, so be prepared! That said, it should be a great experience.

Photo Crazy will be taking photos of riders. So remember the time you pass the photographer! Info will be available at the ride.

ROUTE DESCRIPTIONS:

Route Map 

THE GRIZ (100 miles) Over 10,000 foot elevation gain. Pass Mile High Vista, Jackass Rock, Arch Rock, the red fir forests of Cold Springs Summit, speedily descend to Bass Lake and back to North Fork.

THE METRIC CENTURY (100k = 63 miles) A 5,000 foot elevation gain. North Fork to Mile High Vista and back. Tremendous views of conifer forests, rock formations, and the high Sierra. 

LOOP THE LAKE (24 miles) A 1,000 foot elevation gain around Bass lake, the Pines Resort. Beautiful pines and quiet roads. Then return to the staging area along county highway 274.

THE BYWAY GRINDER (about 100 miles) A new addition to the Griz. 19 miles of new route, with a 9.5 mile grinder section of road beyond the Arch Rock Turn off. The road is half paved and half a combination of gravel, oil, native surface, etc. Bypasses the Grizzly Road

A Pancake Breakfast provided by the North Fork Lion's Club 

Lunch stop at Mile High Vista, Post-ride BBQ dinner

Lots of homemade cookies, fruit, and drinks along the way. 

Takes place rain or shine!

Course closes at 5:30 P.M. For everyone's safety, please observe this time. Our SAGs will assist you in getting back to the staging area. Your cooperation is appreciated. Showers are available.
