FISH CAMP, CA (APRIL 1, 2022) — The Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad, located four miles from the south gate of Yosemite National Park, is back! This popular attraction railroad awakens from its annual winter slumber, thrilling riders (both young and old) once again.
Beginning today, visitors can once again ride the open-air “Logger” steam train on a one-hour excursion through the Sierra Nevada. The Thornberry Museum, onsite gold panning, and Kids Depot Toy Store make Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad the perfect destination for any southern Yosemite family getaway.
"Our team is excited to welcome guests back to the railroad," exclaimed Scott McGhee, General Manager of Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad. "Returning folks will love to see some new additions like the model train operating in the Kids' Depot Toy Store and an impressive historical display of a section of the original Madera Sugar Pine flume. In addition to our daily steam train excursions, we will be hosting special events for Mother's Day, Father's Day, Pioneer Days, and Jazz Train concerts."
Trains depart daily at 11:00 A.M., and 1:00 P.M. riders can purchase tickets and check schedules at www.ymsprr.com.
"It is a great place for families, history aficionados, and people who like to escape the hustle and bustle to step back into a simpler time," McGhee continued. "We have gold panning, boxed lunches, a snack shop for refreshments, and picnic tables for your enjoyment."
Regarding those special events, mark the calendar for Sunday, May 1, 2022, as the celebrated pianist Keiko Matsui will commence an inspiring series of Jazz Train concerts throughout the summer season.
Jazz Train ticket holders will begin their evening with gourmet appetizers, local libations, and an antique steam train ride to a forest clearing. They will discover a performance venue surrounded by impossibly tall pines, jazz music wafting through the trees, and the impressive musical chops of 10 dynamic acts on the calendar. Such acts include headlining jazz musicians like David Benoit and Lee Rocker of the Stray Cats.
