Sierra Mountain Quilters Association's mission is to promote the preservation of traditional needlework and quilting techniques while encouraging experimentation in contemporary application of these techniques, to educate the public in general about the value of artistic, handcrafted quilted items and to encourage cooperation, fellowship, creativity and quality craftsmanship.

Founded in 1980 the membership qualification for one to join was simply having a love of quilting and it still holds true today.
