All Aboard! Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad Unveils Its First-Ever Holiday Magic Train
A Dazzling New Winter Tradition Arrives in Southern Yosemite, November 21, 2025 - January 4, 2026
FISH CAMP, CA, NOVEMBER 19, 2025 — For the first time in its 60-year history, the Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad will remain open this winter to unveil a brand-new experience, the Holiday Magic Train, running November 21, 2025, through January 4, 2026. Inspired by the overwhelming public demand for a holiday-themed train, this beloved railroad, known for its historic Shay steam engines and summer Moonlight Special trains, now brings festive cheer to southern Yosemite. The one-hour journey invites guests to step into the holiday season, filled with hot cocoa, holiday carols, and a spectacular display of lights, a new holiday tradition for families, locals, and Yosemite travelers.
Each ticket includes one visit to the Hot Chocolate Bar and a 1-hour ride on the open-air train, adorned with twinkling lights and classic holiday caroling as it winds down the track to the Lewis Creek Amphitheater. There, guests can stretch their legs, enjoy holiday photo opportunities, and take in the forest views before returning to the station. Elevate the experience with a “Shaycuterie” Box, or a delightful Holiday Sweets Box, both perfect for sharing and savoring onboard. The Kids Toy Depot, Thornberry Museum, and gift shop will also be open, offering nostalgia, treats, and fun holiday gifts.
“The guests and customers have been asking for a holiday train for years, and we have finally decided that 2025 is the year to make that happen,” expressed Scott McGhee, General Manager at the Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad. He continued, “We can’t wait to welcome everyone aboard.”
The Holiday Magic Train operates three times a night, except on November 27, December 13, 24, and 25, and January 1, 2026, as the Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad is closed. Located just minutes from the southern entrance to Yosemite National Park, the Holiday Magic Train is the perfect addition to a winter getaway in Madera County. Visitors are encouraged to make the most of the season by booking an overnight stay in nearby Oakhurst, Bass Lake, and Coarsegold, home to cozy cabins, family-friendly resorts, boutique hotels, festive dining, and charming small-town holiday events.
Tickets are available now at https://ymsprr.com/ and are expected to sell quickly for this inaugural season. Early reservations are strongly encouraged for this one-of-a-kind winter wonderland event.
