History of the Crane Valley Hydroelectric System

Fresno Flats Historic Village & Park

Local historian Joe Ellis will present an overview of the history of the Crane Valley hydroelectric system and its significance as the first large scale, multi-plant system on the west coast. He will show over 100 photographs, beginning with Powerhouse 1 in 1895 and including work by renowned photographers A.W. Peters and Pop Laval. He will also discuss the company that built the system, San Joaquin Light & Power. How it came to be, its role in the mountain community, and where it is now.

Light snacks will be provided.

The event is free of charge, but donations are welcome and appreciated.
