Visit Yosemite Madera County Welcoming Committee

Adorable Southern California Family Wins the Yosemite Adventure Contest Grand Prize from Visit Yosemite | Madera County

OAKHURST, CA (JANUARY 19, 2021) – Visit Yosemite | Madera County is a visitor center and tourism bureau that proudly highlights the region's enormous amount of recreational options in southern Yosemite and Madera County. To help tell this story, in 2018, Visit Yosemite | Madera County introduced their "Welcoming Committee" and the Yosemite Adventure Contest

Past winners have enjoyed two-night stays at a popular resort or vacation home, wine tasting along the Madera Wine Trail, rides on the Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad, and gift certificates to the region's best restaurants. Last year, newly added prize package options included; outdoor adventures like Bass Lake boat rentals, rock-climbing, and ATV Tours.

Is your family road trip hunting this spring? Look no further. The "Welcoming Committee" is a group of animal characters who invite visitors to explore the Fossils to Falls Road Trip. Explorers can collect trading cards at seven different locations, and discover the best attractions in Yosemite and it's southern gateway. Participants collect cards to enter to win the Yosemite Adventure Grand Prize.

2020's grand prize-winning family; John, Sheri, and Gwendelyn McKechnie, visited every stop along the Fossils to Falls Road Trip. They collected trading cards from the Fossils Discovery Center of Madera County, Madera Wine Trail, Oakhurst Visitor Center, Bass Lake, Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad, Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias, and Yosemite Valley.

"The southern Sierra Nevada is the gateway to so much more than just Yosemite National Park," says Rhonda Salisbury, CEO Visit Yosemite | Madera County. "You can find alpine lakes, historic wine country, ancient fossils, trees, and views. There is a colossal amount of artwork, viticulture, and entertainment to keep visitors smiling. Plus, our historical forests, museums, and antique railroad attraction give this corner of the world its unique culture. That's something that stays with people. When they realize that there is a lifetime of adventure they can find here, they return year after year."

"The Fossils to Falls Roads Trip and its Welcoming Committee Contest were all designed to ease travelers' ways, guiding them to explore the rugged countryside, rolling foothills, and ultimately an amazing journey to Yosemite National Park. People have so much fun with this promotion, and we were glad to keep it going, in a modified way, throughout the trials of 2020," Mrs. Salisbury continued. "Our team looks forward to announcing new contest details this spring. We are launching a colorful new character and new stop for the itinerary, so stay tuned!"

In Madera County, there is an adventure for every level. Travelers will find miles of open space, fresh air, and care-free moments in the Sierra Nevada. The hotels, resorts, vacation rentals, and businesses in the region have pledged to be a safe, clean, comfortable option for travelers when they are ready to get back to the wondrous world of travel.

The Fossils to Falls Road Trip is fun for families, besties, and solo travelers, too. It's a journey from the heart of California's agriculture region, through the historic wine country, onward into the High Sierra, and the grandeur of Yosemite National Park!
