Yosemite Peak Hours Reservations, Free Transportation, and Sustainable Travel Tips from the Southern Gateway Community

OAKHURST, CA, June 23, 2025 - As summer begins, and the campgrounds open up for the season, Yosemite National Park’s Peak-Hours Reservations will be required daily from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm now through August 15, 2025, and August 30 through September 1, 2025. Summer reservations are still available and can be made on Recreation.gov. If there are any sold-out days, no worries - additional reservations will become available seven days prior to the entry date, allowing for greater flexibility in planning your national park vacation. For visitors seeking a more immersive experience in Yosemite, local tour operators are ready to handle the driving, parking, and reservations while you sit back and enjoy the narrated tour. Additionally, the YARTS route along Highway 41 provides a comfortable and convenient public transportation option for accessing Yosemite, allowing you to choose your adventure for the day.

Now more than ever, it is crucial for visitors to the National Parks to adhere to the Leave No Trace principles and exercise Recreating Responsibility. Visit Yosemite | Madera County offers visitors and locals free garbage bags to promote environmental stewardship while enjoying the region's great outdoors. Stop by the Visitor Center in Oakhurst, located at 40343 CA-41, to pick yours up on your way to the area and help keep our National Parks pristine.

On October 4, 2025, join the Yosemite Climbing Association and Visit Yosemite | Madera County for the second annual Oakhurst Facelift, a volunteer-based clean-up event in Oakhurst. In 2024, the Oakhurst Facelift volunteer group removed over 1,800 pounds of trash from the Oakhurst River Parkway Trail. Learn more about the 2025 event and how to register by visiting https://www.yosemitethisyear.com/oakhurst-community-facelift

To reduce vehicle congestion and emissions, explore the gateway communities of Oakhurst and beautiful Bass Lake in style with the FREE Oakhurst Trolley and Bass Lake Shoreline Shuttle Fridays through Sundays all summer long. Explore the art galleries, local libations, shops, and restaurants on the Oakhurst Trolley, which conveniently stops at major hotels along Highway 41. On the shores of Bass Lake, enjoy the day-use beach areas, discover hiking trails, dine lakeside at the restaurants, rent a water toy, plus explore local events on the Bass Lake Shoreline Shuttle. These free and eco-friendly transportation options make exploring the southern gateway easy and fun.

As you plan your Yosemite adventure, Visit Yosemite | Madera County invites you to explore responsibly, travel sustainably, and make a positive impact along the way. Take advantage of free transportation on weekends and do your part to Leave No Trace by picking up a free trash bag from the Visitor Center. Alternatively, join the Oakhurst Facelift at the end of the season and participate in this growing movement to protect and preserve this region. Whether you’re here for the spectacular views, the pristine trails, or the community spirit, Yosemite’s southern gateway welcomes all to experience it with care.
