San Joaquin Winery

The mission statement at San Joaquin Wine Co. is: “To produce the highest quality wines possible at affordable prices from select local grape varieties.”

Founded in 2005 by Steve and Cindy Schafer, San Joaquin Wine Company (SJWC) in Madera County was born from Steve's desire to see the family farm's grapes and almonds achieve full circle, from growth to bottle. The winery started producing wine in 2009 with four varietals under the "Moody Press Cellars" label, expanding to 18 varietals across nine labels, now selling over 25,000 cases both domestically and internationally. 

Advocating sustainable winegrowing and being active in the California Association of Wine Grape Growers, Steve Schafer, who has also been recognized as the "CAWG Grape Grower of The Year," champions the value of vineyard stewardship and the winemaking vocation. San Joaquin Wine Co. is committed to producing high-quality, affordable wines from select local grapes, aiming to expand their selection and foster community connections through their passion for winemaking.
